As an Educational Psychologist, she skilfully combined her expertise in crafting motivational learning resources with her love for squash, resulting in comprehensive guides that make the sport accessible and enjoyable for all.
Reflecting on her junior days as a 1980s Irish squash player, Lisa fondly recalls the vibrant social world of the close-knit community of the Galway Lawn Tennis Club (G.L.T.C.). Her parents, along with many other committed fun-loving parents, were actively involved in running junior squash, creating a family-friendly environment where club events were plentiful and lifelong friendships flourished.
As a teen, the club was the go-to place for good times with clubmates and laughter was never in short supply. The national squash scene brought further adventures and positive life experiences, on and off the court. What a way of life!
Lisa firmly believes that her formative years in this fast-paced individual sport provided life-long skills – fortifying her grit, instilling perseverance in the face of challenges, and nurturing her independent spirit. Lisa continued on to study psychology and embraced an adventurous lifestyle overseas while working with children and their families.
Fast forward three decades, and after a hiatus from the sport, Lisa was now back living in Ireland, with her family and running her own private practice. Lisa’s unexpectedly found herself back on the court in her mid-40s, inspired by her youngest son’s interest in the game.

Overcoming self-doubts, which Lisa believes is not uncommon for busy mothers returning to fitness, she cautiously stepped back onto the court. Before long, her love for the game was fully reignited, and Lisa embraced everything squash had to offer. She committed herself to getting fitter, improving her squash skills, embarking on new life experiences through sport, travel, competition, and reconnecting with former squash mates.

Since returning to squash, Lisa has also taken new directions in learning and education. She has achieved a World Squash Federation Level 1 coaching certification, completed World Squash Officiating Level 2 referee courses, and obtained a Certification in Fitness and Conditioning.

These accomplishments, along with her own desire to be more knowledgeable of the squash rules, enriched her understanding of the game, contributing further to her ability to create comprehensive and effective learning resources through The Glass Court.
Her roles in the club, including women’s squash representative and squash vice-captain, served as eye-openers to the need for clarity and user-friendly guidance on squash rules. Witnessing players and parents struggling with the rules,  and seeing how that impacted their enjoyment of the game, set Lisa on a path of creating some player-friendly guides to enhance the playing experience for her fellow clubmates.
As her passion for the sport merged with her educational psychology background, this mission evolved into a journey of retraining and upskilling to craft comprehensive guides that simplify and demystify the rules, catering to players of all levels, from beginners to seasoned enthusiasts. The low-key endeavour for the club blossomed into the enterprise of The Glass Court, with the ultimate goal of enhancing every player’s experience of the game.
Lisa embarked on a quest to find the perfect solution to sharing squash rules in an entertaining, informative, and effortless way. Armed with her rich squash imagination and an Irish sense of humour,  she recognized the transformative power of captivating fun artwork. She wanted to surpass dry verbal explanations and the inadequacy of squash stock images. Her unwavering determination to create something truly special led her to seek a collaborator who could bring her squash vision to life with bespoke, witty squash illustrations.
Enter David Banks, a talented professional freelance cartoon illustrator, cartoonist, caricaturist, and fellow squash player from the UK. With Lisa’s specific briefs, David’s artistic prowess and whimsical twists breathed life into The Glass Court squash guides, crafting a visually entertaining landscape that perfectly reflected Lisa’s vision and captured the essence and fun of the game.

As Lisa’s passion for squash evolved, she became utterly captivated by the exhilarating matches on the professional tour. Witnessing the gladiatorial battles unfold live on glass courts in stunning locations, like the Giza Pyramids and Grand Central Station in New York City, left her in awe. She wondered how anyone could resist becoming a squash fan.

She deeply respected the humility and down-to-earthiness displayed by the world’s top pros. She found boundless inspiration in the sport’s inclusivity, embracing the unique opportunities that squash offers for players like herself to train with, and learn from, world-class athletes. Evident was the shared passion for the game, across the global squash community, which transcended skill level. Lisa wanted to capture the glory of our great game in these guides.
Through her journey, Lisa deeply appreciates the profound impact of squash as a catalyst for personal growth, well-being, fun, and empowerment at multiple stages of life. This experience fuelled her unwavering desire to share the excitement and magic of squash through The Glass Court guides.
